"Friends for Life" Movie Garners 30th Industry Honor

Add a Comment

Friends for Life, the award winning motion picture from Grizzly Adams® Productions, was recently screened at the Attic Film Festival in Austin, Texas. "We're pleased that Friends for Life was selected to be shown during the Attic Film Fest," notes creator/producer Charles E. Sellier. "Ours is a story of redemption: a man in despair is led back to a meaningful, joy-filled life by a pack of young wolves and a rather offbeat angel. This film tells a powerful story of a man moving past a personal tragedy. It's a view of life that much of our audience can relate to in their everyday lives."

Friends for Life has been honored by a total of thirty film festivals and film competitions around the world. "Fans of the original Life and Times of Grizzly Adams movies and television series have discovered that this film has many of the same elements: a strong hero, the battle of good versus evil, an environmentally-based noble cause, and animals in the wild," Sellier explains.

Who will be the new Grizzly Adams?

Many people are wondering what actor we will use for the New Grizzly Adams show. Some have pushed hard for the return of Dan Haggerty in that role. I have made the point in our blog that when Dan and I first worked together on the original movie, Dan was 35 years old. That was in August of 1974 – in other words 36 years ago. You do the math, Dan is NOT a very young guy anymore. Using Dan is just not feasible for a number of reasons. i.e., the network executives want young and good looking actors, the role is VERY physical and the new show will be modern day requiring a different “look” than the original that took place in 1845. SO, let’s put that discussion aside and instead talk about what we WILL do.

My plan is to have a national competition to find the New Grizzly Adams. We will use a system made famous by American Idol. We will put out casting calls in a number of locations throughout America. Our casting people will interview anyone that thinks they can handle the role. Please bear in mind that the person who gets the role needs to look VERY comfortable working up close with very large Grizzly bears. Dan Haggerty was AMAZING at doing this, he had no fear at all and it showed. In fact Dan always looked like he was having fun with the animals – this is a very important trait.

Once our casting people have interviewed all those that wish to try out, there will be a second interview where the potential actors will meet and interact with some of the animals. Those that get through that process well will then have a screen test to see how the camera likes them.

Finally, my creative staff and I will select a finalist to be the new Grizzly Adams lead. Probably this person will be a young, tall, good looking man who is totally relaxed with wild animals.

I hope this blog helps clear up all the discussions on this subject. Please let me know what YOU think. Warmly, Chuck

How about casting Dan as Mad Jack then?
This way he can still be part of the "Grizzly Adams" legacy...

The Grizzly Adams series should be brought back to this generation on on a family friendly network to aquaint this generation with such heartfelt ways of life with meaning and kindness and helping our fellow brother and nature at the same time.Dan haggerty was a looked forward to family time. The new one would be great if Dan was on it as Dad or grandpa to main charactor,or a Man who finds abandoned young man and teaches and mentors him in nature ways and modern day indians in it as keeping their old ways interwoven into storyline. I cant wait to see finished product. It is much needed in our society of too much change and violence with human morals worsening in our world.I can see a great following again as main series.

I think the main male actor who played in the Tv series
"MEN IN TREES" could VERY much play this role! He could even easily look like Grizzly Adams. And he played with animals on the show a lot. Including a bear. (Seemed comfortable to me?)
His role was some kind of wildlife something?, in Alaska. Plus he had that peaceful natural, nature-loving, gentle quality about him but yet definitely a leader, that I loved so much about Adams.. I wish I knew the actors name... He would be GREAT in this!!! The only one in my head I could actually picture doing such a great role as Adams!
I hope you can check him out & his role he played in Alaska in "MEN IN TREES"......

Blessings on your search! :)

So what would be wrong with a woman being the lead in this? I know lots of women that are not afraid of any animal the way most men I know are. Just a thought and she could be his daughter or neice or something.

I was in my 20's when Grizzly Adams was on TV and we LOVED the show for many reasons. It was family friendly, Dan was exceptional and the scenery was breathtaking.
Just throwing in my 2 cents but actors like Brad Pitt would never fit this role. You need someone like Dan, someone outdoorsy and rugged looking. I hope this happens because TV is lacking these days. We are being forced to drink the Kool-aid aka reality shows overload and many have simply started canceling cable and stopped watching TV, like my own family.

Totally agree on all accounts! We have done the same as a family too..

I know alot of real life people that still live that way. Go to Toutle, WA and you will find at least 6 real life Adams-types still living that kind of life.

How about Brad Pitt?

How about John Schneider?

I would be very interested in auditioning for this part. Audition locations would be great
Diana, Montana , April 25, 2010 at 8:15 PM | Reply
What would be cool is to see re-runs of the original show on tv and to be able to buy the tv series in a boxed set or separately.
James O., Richland WA , June 10, 2010 at 6:05 PM | Reply
You can by the whole boxed set on the internet. I bought it about 3 years ago. I loved the show. When it started comming on tv my family had a bear named charlie, a racoon named bandit, and skunk that thought he was a dog.

I agree. I would love to be able to buy this on dvd and share something I loved so much with my children. I don't think the original can be improved.

I had hoped you would be doing another series for TV because TV is SO lacking in decent entertainment.

I just Love Grizzly Adams; I grew up watching the show. In fact, I just got the series and now my kids are fans. It's hard to think of other people playing Adams, Nakoma and Mad Jack...watching the series has brought back so many fun family memories.

Friends for Life med

Friends For Life is about to enter a whole new dimension.  San Diego-based PassmoreLab, a state-of-the-art multi-media production studio that specializes in 2-D to 3-D content conversion, is currently working on re-mastering Friends for Life for 3-D release and theatrical exhibition.  "We created Friends for Life so the whole family can sit and enjoy a redeeming, life-affirming film together," Grizzly Adams founder and President Chuck Sellier explains. "For the past half dozen years or so, cutting-edge movie producers have recognized that sophisticated video game graphics have conditioned our younger viewers to expect more realistic visuals than we were previously able to deliver. Tremendous advancements have been made recently combining high definition and three dimensions."

Greg Passmore, president of the company that bears his name, observes, "The difference is like night and day. Today's 3-D experience, whether in a movie theater or at home in front of a 3-D TV, is sharp, crisp, clean, realistic, and very enjoyable. PassmoreLab employs leading edge technology to insure Friends for Life is not just a 3-D movie, but an immersive and engaging experience that can be enjoyed as if you were actually standing in the woods with the characters."

The 3-D version of Friends for Life is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009 and will be available for Spring 2010 worldwide theatrical release.

I just happened to stumble on this website,I was looking for possible places to live after my marriage property settlement ends in June. I retired from law enforcement in 2001. I always wanted to become a wildlife conservation officer ,but could never seem to get high enough on the test. I have always been called Davy Crockett, or Daniel Boone, but I always told everyone,I am more the Grizzley Adams type and was very saddened when it went off the air, also with Sierra as I was a law enforcement park ranger in the National Park Service.I graduated from a gunsmith school, love hunting, and want into bladesmithing and blacksmithing, and gotta go get my floppy hat. When I used to work for the gov't. ,women would call me the flannel man as I always showed up in flannel shirts and jeans and stompers in the heat of the summer, lol. I bought a brand new Nissan 4 wheel drive in 1995, and the guys called me woodchuck, I filled my truck with firewood before going home each night after work, they said, yer not going to put firewood in that new truck, well,it hauled my wood and Stihl chainsaw very well thank you. I saw this thing about an audition when I was searching the net for possibly places to live in the backcountry of Idaho,Montana,Wyoming with no neighbors, I just happened to look up Grizzley Adams, and could not believe they planned on a remake of this moving, wow, wouldn't that be the cat's meow, somebody is going to get extremely lucky to get that role, i'd die for it. Loved that ole Grizzley and Ben,always pictured myself living like that and with a divorce settlement coming, looking for my place in the deep woods, put my shop up and rifle range for test firing..hey I better quit writing. Start making knives like Bill Moran,an idol of mine, love those custon hand forged knives.
